The ‘70s are arguably one of the most iconic decades when it comes to both fashion and beauty trends and have made several comebacks over the years. Legendary stars like Farrah Fawcett, Debbie Harry and Bianca Jagger, as well as a hugely influential music scene, have ensured that this period is frequently revisited and continues to impact on modern day culture.
Continuing on from the more natural ‘60s Flower Power look by moving into the glamorous era of disco before edging towards the ‘80s with edgier, punk-inspired face paint, it was a versatile decade when it comes to beauty trends.
And with these three very different but equally striking standout styles, there is a look for every occasion.
The two most iconic hairstyles to emerge from the ‘70s were long manes worn poker-straight with a centre parting and the famous Farrah Flick: feathered layers teased into tumbling curls. This bouncy, voluminous do has once again been given a modern update at the Fall and Winter shows in New York and will be a glamorous look for the coming season.
To recreate either of the two looks, apply a heat protection spray like Paul Mitchell’s Hot Off The Press before you start. For both ‘70s styles, begin by blow-drying your hair with a big, round brush. Use a flat iron to either straighten your tresses into sleek, glossy strands or “flip” your ends outward to create big curls a la Farrah.
