Radcliffe: I couldn’t do 50 Shades - ( M4L4YS14 )

Daniel Radcliffe has joked there was “inaudible uproar” that he wasn’t cast in Fifty Shades of Grey.

The Harry Potter actor was left puzzled when someone informed him he was a fan favourite to play the lead character of Christian Grey in the raunchy film adaptation.

The role has now been given to Charlie Hunnam, with actress Dakota Johnson playing Christian’s younger lover Anastasia Steele.

“I literally had someone say to me for the first time today, ‘The world’s in uproar you’re not playing Christian Grey.’ And I’m like ‘If this is uproar, it’s inaudible,’” Daniel joked to MTV News from the Toronto International Film Festival. “I think there was approximately no people wanting me to play Christian Grey, including myself.”

The storyline follows young college graduate Anastasia as she embarks on a steamy, erotic relationship with older businessman Christian and explores new sexual boundaries.

Daniel thinks the leading stars will do the book by E. L. James justice. He was relieved not to be offered the risqué project as he doesn’t think it would fit in with his portfolio.

“I have to say, no offence to anybody, I’m sure they’re going to do a great job on the movie, but it’s not something that I think of would have been a good next step for me,” he insisted.

In real life the 24-year-old actor holds traditional views on relationships. He believes intimacy is best enjoyed with someone close rather than spontaneously.

“Hooking up is not fun. Sex is a lot more fun if you’re actually enjoying the company of the person you’re with,” he recently stated.
