AES cameras to catch criminals too, says police chief – Bernama - ( M4L4YS14 )

The Royal Malaysian Police intends to use the Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras not only to catch traffic offenders but criminals as well, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pic) said Saturday.

He was commenting on the role of the police in enforcing the system, previously under the Road Transport Department, after launching the Selangor level Amanita Crime Awareness Day in Sabak Bernam today.

Khalid also reminded offenders with unpaid traffic fines or arrest warrants to settle their dues immediately.

In relation to Ops Cantas, he said the operation, which has netted more than 10,000 individuals so far for various criminal activities including secret societies, will be continued.

As for the Amanita programme, he noted that the police had received positive feedback from non-governmental organisations wishing to collaborate in ensuring the safety of women, since it was launched on September 14.

Amanita or “Peace Lady” is a programme under the government’s Blue Ocean strategy which involves policewomen making connections with women, including housewives, in efforts to combat crime at the grassroots level. – Bernama, September 21, 2013.
