Tupac biopic in 2014 - ( M4L4YS14 )

22 Sep – The biopic of slain rapper Tupac Shakur is set to start filming in 2014. Morgan Creek Productions and Emmet Furla Films announced last Thursday that they plan to co-finance and produce the film. Acting as executive producer is Afeni Shakur, Tupac Shakur’s mother.

Jeremy Haft and Eddie Gonzales, who wrote the direct-to-video crime drama “Street Kings II”, are set to write the script about the late rapper, who had sold millions of records even after his death.

There have been previous efforts before this to get a narrative film of Tupac made but negotiations between Afeni Shakur and producers fell apart on the issue of creative control.

Born in Harlem, Shakur moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988. He was a vocal participant in the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop feud in the 90s and was slain during a shooting in Las Vegas, 1996.

The slain rapper’s life has been the subject of multiple documentaries such as 2003′s “Tupac: Resurrection” and 2002′s “Biggie and Tupac”. The latter tells the rivalry between Tupac Shakur and late New York rapper Biggie Smalls.

The potential actor to play the part of the late rapper is still to be announced.
